Vedic astrology: what Jyotish is and how to read your chart

Jyotish is often translated as the light or science of the stars. Rather than a list of predictions, it proposes reading the birth sky as a way to understand inner rhythms, choices, relationships and maturation processes.

In a modern reading, Vedic astrology can be used as a self-knowledge tool. The key is not to treat it as fixed fate, but as symbolic language for observing possibilities and patterns.

One important difference from Western astrology is the use of the sidereal zodiac. This can place some planets in different signs than the ones you know from a tropical chart.

Rashi, or Moon sign, carries a lot of weight in Vedic tradition because the Moon describes mind, sensitivity, habits and how life is received. That is why many Vedic readings begin with the Moon, not only with the Sun.

Vedic astrology reads planets, houses, signs and more specific divisions such as Nakshatras. Each layer adds precision, but it is better to learn them gradually so the chart does not become a confusing list of data.

A useful reading integrates the pieces: which planet acts, in which sign, in which life area and with what emotional tone. That is where a more human interpretation appears.
